About
About the ITT MFL support for teacher trainers project
The ITT MFL support for teacher trainers project aims to provide web-based subject support through introducing trainers to current thinking, research and professional networks. CILT, the National Centre for Languages, is working with the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA), to produce these on-line support materials.
The project started in 2003 and the production of materials is phased over two years. These are being developed according to national priorities and with reference to an analysis of the training needs of new tutors, carried out by CILT in November 2003. The project has also enabled the development of a virtual community for ITT MFL through an e-mail discussion forum.
CILT is working in partnership with the Association for Language Learning (ALL) and a number of specialists from Higher Education Institutes in developing the project. CILT specialist advisory groups are also being consulted. The CILT Advisory Group for ITT, with its national representation of different ITT providers will influence the specification for the content of on-line modules and have a defined role in quality assurance. The CILT Advisory Group on Research, a group of practising researchers each an expert in their field, will also provide professional input and advice.
CILT, the National Centre for Languages is the UK government's national centre of expertise for languages, which is an independent charitable trust supported by central government grants, with the aim of collecting and disseminating information on all aspects of modern languages and the teaching of modern languages.
The Association for Language Learning (ALL) is the UK's major subject association for teachers of foreign languages. ALL is committed to the professional development of teachers of languages and the promotion of language learning and teaching.
